This site has more than 140 pages and more than 70,000 names, mainly from previously unindexed material in record offices or libraries. Most of those 70,000+ people were born in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the USA or Canada. I'd like to add thousands more names in the future, but I'll need your help to keep this website online.

WARNING! Google is not indexing all pages on this site, so you'll miss relevant items unless you browse the pages yourself. These tips will help.

• 'Main menu' links are across the top and bottom of most pages.
  
  
• 'Breadcrumb trail' links ('You are here') are below the main menu at the top of some pages.
  
  
• On pages with lists of names, scroll down slowly and check for unexpected spelling variants.
  
  
• I'm still adding to this site. To keep track of which names you looked for, on which pages, and when you last looked, use free checklists (opens in a new window).
  
  
• Many pages have extra links in 'Other Suggestions' near the bottom of the page.
  
  
• Links to external websites open in a new window.
  
  
• Most lists of names from my indexes to original historical records have links (eg, 'how to obtain copies') leading to details of my copying service for that source.
  
  
• Keyboard shortcuts with Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome and some other browsers (hold down the Ctrl key while pressing the other key)
