On these pages I have combined the family trees of William Donald WEBSTER and Florence HUDSON (my grandparents). Main surnames include AGAR, ASHTON, BARBER, CAMPBELL, GIBLETT, HARLEY, HUDSON, HUGILL, MATTHEW, NICHOLSON, PEACOCK, PORTER, SHEPPARD, WEBSTER. Details of living people have been suppressed to protect their privacy.
Main locations include England (Yorkshire, Durham, London, Middlesex, Surrey, Somerset, Wiltshire etc), Scotland, Ireland and Australia. A few branches moved to Canada, Wales and possibly New Zealand. Some families have been traced back (with documentary evidence from original records) to the mid 1700s. Our PORTER ancestor moved from Scotland to England in the 1700s, and our WEBSTERs are alleged to have done so too.
Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to this project (especially those who shared irreplaceable family documents or did significant research in archives - notably Michael FLYNN, Anne and Michael REECE, Rodney CARR, Yvonne THOMAS, Joe HUDSON, Julie BROOK, Jennie JORDAN and Bill CORDUEX).
This is a 'work in progress', and there will be some errors. Many entries are based on anecdotal evidence and need to be verified. I have a vast amount of information that is not shown here. I will gladly exchange documents, photos and full source references with anyone who is researching these families. Additions and corrections are welcome, but please explain from what sources you obtained your facts.
As Elizabeth Shown Mills says in "Evidence! Citation and Analysis for the Family Historian" (Genealogical Publishing Company, Baltimore, 1997), "Genealogical research - well done - requires a critical approach to knowledge... we are still expected to verify those published facts."
To give future generations access to a reliable family tree, we need to ensure the long-term preservation of our data; but we must also observe privacy and copyright laws. You may use information shown here for your own PRIVATE records, provided that you show the source for each fact as 'Judy Webster's website www.judywebster.com.au'; but this site is copyright, so ask my permission before reproducing any part of it in print or online (including trees on Ancestry or elsewhere).
From the 'Surname Index', click through to specific names to see more information. If you think we are related, please contact me at the address shown below.
Several relatives have contacted me via my entries at Curious Fox (a town/village-based message system) and LostCousins, and I encourage you to submit information to those sites (links open in new windows). If you can upload a GEDCOM file, I recommend that you do so (free) at Findmypast and at Rootsweb's WorldConnect where you can control what people do with your data.
