This was added in the bottom margin of page 440. On page 439, entry no.3508 reads '1863 Feb 18th Frederick, parents William James and Anne WEBSTER. Kent Terrace, Lyndhurst Road, warehouseman'. (It was indexed as Feb 16th but it is clearly an 8 not a 6.) A close study of the register revealed that entries are not in strict chronological order. It looks as if the minister sometimes entered, ahead of time, details of baptisms that he expected to perform. All things considered, 25th Feb seems likely to be the true date.

  2. [S92] Multiple sources indicate that Ellen was born in 1856 in outback New South Wales. Various certificates for Ellen and her children list her birthplace as Mobler, or Mobler Station, or Mobala, or Mobilla/Mobla, Merri Merri Creek. As she was born in a very remote area, and just 4 months after the start of civil registration, it isn't surprising that there's apparently no official birth certificate. Evidence that she was born in 1856: (1) Headstone in Helidon cemetery (I have a photo) says Ellen was born 17 Jul 1856. (2) Letter from St. Barnabas's Parish, Coonamble, quoting the church marriage register, which has details that are not in civil registration records: Ellen 'aged 21 married 31 May 1877' implies born before 31 May 1856. (3) Birth certificate of son Thomas James WEBSTER 17 Apr 1878: 'Ellen aged 22' implies born before 17 Apr 1856. (4) Birth certificate of son William Donald WEBSTER 17 Apr 1884: 'Ellen aged 27' which is the age she would be in April 1884 if she was born July 1856. (5) Birth certificate of daughter Grace Agnes WEBSTER 13 Dec 1889: 'Ellen aged 33' implies born before 13 Dec 1856. (6) Ellen's death certificate 'aged 88, died 27 Sep 1944' implies born before 27 Sep 1856.
