In October 1874 the people listed below (householders of Cooktown in north Qld) signed a petition that Cooktown be declared a municipality. This source is valuable for genealogy and family history, especially if the signature on the original document is the only surviving example of your ancestor's handwriting.

Explanation of names below:

• Scroll through the list. Names may have been spelled incorrectly in the records.
• Names beginning with 'Mc' precede other 'M' surnames.
• Apostrophes have been removed from names such as O'GRADY.
• For names below, I can obtain copies of the original records (this link leads to instructions).

Genealogy is my business (not just a hobby), so I charge fees for my time, regardless of the result. I've spent over 35 years learning about (and indexing) original records, and it takes time/money to consult my index, travel to a record office in Brisbane, find the relevant bundle/volume and file/page, and send you a copy.
