How YOU can influence my indexing plans

After almost 40 years as a professional genealogist, I'm winding down towards retirement, and I need to be selective with my indexing projects. I'm willing to give priority to certain districts / years, if you follow these instructions carefully. I reserve the right to change or withdraw the offers.

For a while, I'll keep indexing (1) documents that name the father of an illegitimate child (this is my top priority); (2) birth, death and marriage certificates found within obscure Queensland State Archives series; (3) documents about people 'of unsound mind'; (4) neglected or adopted children; and (5) selected items of interest, including references to unusual names (surname or given names), and some people who 'disappeared'.

If you want me to focus on records for a certain time period and district, follow these instructions precisely. You'll receive an automated acknowledgement, and you should then watch for names to be added to my website (announcements will be on What's New). By sending these details (free of charge), you are merely trying to influence my indexing priorities. You are NOT requesting research.

#1. If you're trying to identify the biological father of a child born or living in Queensland: email me at (note the '2') (Image of email address) and tell me:

  1. names of the child and its mother
  2. child's birth date (or approximate year)
  3. child's birth place, and/or...
  4. child's mother's town(s) of residence in QLD during the year before the child's birth and several years afterwards (but, if applicable, before adoption)
  5. (if known) names of the child's maternal grandparents, and where they lived before/after the birth
  6. (if applicable) adoption details (date/names)
  7. your name and email address.
  8. Do NOT send any other details!

#2. Offer no.2 has been withdrawn for now, but may be available again in the future.

#3 & #4. These offers were available for a limited time, and have been withdrawn.

I suggest... (links open in new windows):

Check the Illegitimate Index. The webpage lists mothers and children for whom I have already found a historical document that names the child's biological father. It's an on-going project (as are the indexes listed below).

Check the Interim Index. Some mothers of illegitimate children are also listed there.

Check the list of Neglected, Adopted or Orphaned Children.

Check the list of names from Missing Friends records.

Watch for additions to my indexes: What's New.
