How YOU can influence my indexing plans

After almost 40 years as a professional genealogist, I'm winding down towards retirement, and I need to be selective with my indexing projects. I'm willing to give priority to certain district/years, if you follow these instructions precisely. I reserve the right to change or withdraw the offers.

For a while, I'll keep indexing (1) documents that name the father of an illegitimate child (this is my top priority); (2) birth, death and marriage certificates found within obscure Queensland State Archives series; (3) documents about people 'of unsound mind'; (4) neglected or adopted children; (5) selected items of interest, including references to women (especially before they could enrol to vote) and uncommon surnames or given names.

By sending the following details (free of charge), you are merely expressing interest in records for a certain place and time. You are not committing yourself to anything! Initially you'll receive an automated reply, but if/when I find records that I think may be relevant, I'll contact you.

#1. If you're trying to identify the biological father of a child born or living in Queensland: email me at (note the '2') (Image of email address) and tell me:

  1. names of the child and its mother (and, if known, its maternal grandparents)
  2. child's birth date (or approximate year)
  3. child's birth place (if known)
  4. (if known) child's mother's town(s) of residence in *Qld* before and/or after the child's birth
  5. (if applicable) adoption details
  6. your name and at least one email address.
  7. Do NOT send any other details!

#2. If you're researching someone who 'disappeared' in Queensland: email me at (note the '2') (Image of email address) and tell me:

  1. subject's name (and, if applicable, spouse's name)
  2. last known residence in Queensland (date, place, and source of information)
  3. your name and at least one email address.
  4. Do NOT send any other details!

#3. Offer no.3 was available for a limited time. It was withdrawn after a month.

#4. If you expect to find something specific in Court or Police records (eg, wife/child desertion; bigamy; assault; naturalisation; prohibition order re excessive consumption of alcohol) for any district in Queensland before about 1980, email me at (note the '2') (Image of email address) and tell me:

  1. the district
  2. approximate year of the event
  3. the event (wife/child desertion, bigamy, assault, prohibition order, naturalisation, or something else)
  4. your name and at least one email address.
  5. Do NOT send any other details!
I'll file your email, and if I find records that I think may be relevant, I'll contact you (so remember to tell me if your address changes). See also...

Other Suggestions (links open in new windows):

Check the Illegitimate Index. It's an on-going project, and the webpage lists mothers and children for whom I have already found a historical document that names the child's biological father.

Check the Interim Index. Some mothers of illegitimate children are also listed on that webpage.

Check the list of Neglected, Adopted or Orphaned Children.

Check the list of names from Missing Friends records.

Watch for updates about additions to my indexes: What's New.
